WHY MAKE? : GREEDIEBIRD

Meet the dynamic mother-daughter duo, Amanda and Anne from Greediebird!

From hand-crocheted and sewn toys to gorgeous one of a kind children’s clothing, you'll always be able to find something adorable to love. Today, we chat to Amanda and sneak a peek into their amazing world of the creative maker.

Why Make?
Great question! It keeps me sane. Most people that make and create, be it for business or not, have a 'need' to make. It’s similar to people's need for exercise, reading, keeping busy, or chocolate! Whatever it is, without it, you wouldn't be you. And I wouldn't be me if I couldn't make.

Why Crochet?
We originally started with sewn dolls, but after a crash course over the phone with Anne, I began crocheting a few softies and these were really popular. I think the textural element for children was new for customers and it brings back nice memories from having knitted or crocheted toys from your childhood. We continue to use crochet as our main form of toy-making as the variety in colour, size and style appeal to us. We can crochet anywhere - on the couch, at ballet practice - no need for a sewing machine or table space - just a hook and some yarn and away we go!

Why MMM?
This is an easy one. MMM is our favourite market. You'll hear lots of stallholders tell you this. It is well run, well promoted, great for customers with variety in stalls, and the volunteers make it fun (it's also just down the road from my house!). We love sharing our little business face-to-face with the locals and those from afar at MMM. Seeing big smiles appear on people's faces as they approach our stall is a highlight of being part of Greediebird :)

Come browse through Greediebird's treasures next week on Sept 10th!
It's shaping up to be a sunny start to spring with both indoor and outdoor spaces and over 50 stallholders with everything from the traditional wool, felt and sewing crafts to modern concrete, resin and illustration techniques.

See you next week!
