Why Make?: Light My Fire Melbourne

We know it's been some time since our last blog post but it's been an incredibly busy year for all of us here at the Seddon Makers Market! We sincerely hope that as both visitors and makers, you've enjoyed the extra 10 Year celebrations we've conjured up - everything from the lollies to the hand warmers to the coffee vouchers :)

Leading up to our MASSIVE Nov market, we are so happy to welcome back Natalie from Light My Fire Melbourne and her absolutely divine candles. Her story is an inspiration for anyone wanting to take the leap and start a business doing something they love!
Why Make?
For me making is a lot like cooking, there is a process, trial and error, and seeing people smile as a result of something you made is essentially a lot like a big hug! I starting making candles just as Christmas presents for friends and family, but the ball kept rolling and I found myself at markets. It snowballed and the realisation that something I really enjoy doing and am proud of becoming a business was really special!
Why Candles?
I have always been a big fan of candles, but it was never a intense passion or something I grew up with. The process of candlemaking to me is pretty therapeutic, you can be regimented and have a routine and process but can also mix it up and get the music on super loud and make a total mess. The power of scent is really brilliant as well, sometimes people will smell a candle and it will trigger a memory or time that they had forgotten.
Light My Fire is about putting a new spin on your run of the mill candle scents, we even have a new 3 shot gift box - the shots are cocktail scented candles and we are really proud of it! Of course it being almost Christmas we will be bringing back the classic Christmas scents as well! But as always there is going to be a twist!
Why SMM?
Before I had even considered making I visited the Seddon Makers Market with some friends. It was one of the first times I was in awe of the products and the gorgeous environment that SMM has been able to create. Once I started making and building Light My Fire I made it my goal to be a part of the market. So, once I was lucky enough to get accepted I was absolutely stoked. The market has a beautiful vibe and atmosphere to it as a customer... but as a stallholder it's a lot like coming home. Everyone is so motivated and passionate and there's a genuine want to create a great day, sell your wares and just catch up. It's something I don't think I've experienced at any other market and cannot wait until November's big one!

With 80+ stalls showcasing high-quality goodies including jewellery, accessories, clothing, homewares, kids wear/accessories/decor and crafts spread out over Harris Reserve and the Seddon Uniting Church, don't miss out on our biggest market of the year! (Perfect place to get an early start on that Chrissie shopping list)
To add to the festivities, there will be local musicians entertaining us as well as an animal petting zoo and face painting for the kids!
